An art dealer close to the Vollards and the Wildenstein gallery, Martin Fabiani (1899-1989) published important illustrated books such as the Drawings from the works of Buffon by Pablo Picasso or the Pasiphaé by Montherlant illustrated by Matisse. At the time of writing, Fabiani was preparing the publication of a monograph on Matisse, Drawings, themes and variations, for which Aragon signed the preface entitled "Matisse-en-France".

Yellow box, smooth spine decorated with the author's name in mosaic, on each board an oval blue box mosaic decorated with the title stamped in several colours, black moiré silk lining, turquoise suede endpapers, palladium edges on witnesses, cover and spine, folder and slipcase.
