to Mr Pasteur (with the words "sent to JM Pasteur" on the cover) :

To Mr Pasteur
Tribute from the author
Emile Zola

We know of a letter from J.M. Pasteur, co-signed by Messrs Eulgens and Pener, addressed to Zola and sent from Indonesia (Java) on 8 April 1898:

Sir, to congratulate with the decision of the court of assizes

The authors are probably referring to Zola's libel trial, which took place from 7 to 23 February 1898. Although Zola was convicted, the trial helped to expose the contradictions in the case, which the Dreyfus supporters considered a victory.
