This autobiographical novel traces the intellectual and spiritual journey of Ernest Psichari, who renounced his anti-militarist ideals, joined the colonial troops and converted to Catholicism. Killed in action on 22 August 1914, Ernest Psichari was elevated to the status of national hero by the Action Française movement, to which he had become close.
