This First Dialogue of the Harmonious Cityinspired by socialist theories, is Péguy's second book.
The book was written with the help of his friend Marcel Baudouin, one of his best friends, two years his junior, who was a pupil at the Collège Sainte-Barbe and died prematurely on 25 July 1896 at the age of twenty-one.
Péguy married Marcel's sister, Charlotte Baudoin, in October 1897.
It was in tribute to her that he entitled the book Marcel and adopted this pseudonym.

Items signed under this pseudonym are extremely rare.
