FIRST EDITION of this translation into French of a selection of poems by Louis I, then King of Bavaria.
Unique edition limited to 200 copies - The work was republished in 1839.
Translated by Pierre Villiers, former captain of the dragoons, knight of the Legion of Honour, writer and publisher. According to his own testimony, Pierre Villiers served for seven months as secretary to Maximilien de Robespierre, but remained a convinced royalist. The book opens with a dedication to the Prince Royal, son of Louis of Bavaria and future King Maximilian II.

Gabriel Grégoire Bourdeau de la Lajudie (1788-1877) was elected deputy for Haute-Vienne on 3 July 1803. He voted for the accession of Louis-Philippe and swore an oath of loyalty "to the king, the constitutional charter and the laws of the kingdom".
