FIRST EDITION.

On the death of Louis XVIII in 1824, the Count of Artois, the future Charles X, ascended the throne. He revived a pre-Revolutionary tradition by being crowned in Reims with great pomp and ceremony on 29 May 1825. Victor Hugo attended the ceremony alongside Alphonse Lamartine.

According to Ladvocat, 300 copies of this slim booklet were published under subscription. Ode to Charles Ten will be included in the third book of the Odes and Ballads.
