Description

FIRST EDITION.

In 1932, Louis Guilloux left Grasset for Gallimard, where he remained until the end. There was one notable exception in 1936. After the success of Sang Noir, Guilloux offers Gallimard an atypical story Tales of the BrigandsGuilloux's first book was a collection of observations taken on the spot, from a few pages to a few lines. Guilloux turned to Editions Sociales Internationales, founded in 1927 as a branch of the Communist Party, under the direction of Mikhaïl Evseevitch Krebs of the Internationnal Communiste. The book, which was a great success, went out of print the year it was published.

"It is no paradox to treat Histoires de Brigands as an introduction to the work of Louis Guilloux. This anthology sometimes recalls the satirical realism of Bouvard and Pécuchet, sometimes the impressionist realism of Jules Renard. In other words, Guilloux is both a polemicist and an artist.
