Description

Mémoire sur l'art de faire et de conserver les vins de Provence, awarded by the Académie de Marseille at its meeting of 25 August 1807.

FIRST EDITION.
The text appeared in part in 1809 in the Annales des arts et manufactures (volume 34) after receiving the prize of the Académie de Marseille, of which the author, J.A.F. Guérin, was also a member.

A note in ink from the former owner of the volume to his successor:
Of all the oenologists, Mr Guérin is the one who has perfect knowledge of everything to do with vines and wine making, so his precepts must be followed scrupulously without fear of going astray. This is what I have done myself, both for planting, choosing the right vines for the different types of grapes, and for handling the casks, as well as for wine making, and I have found it perfectly satisfactory. I therefore urge my successor to read this report carefully and follow its recommendations.

The book is divided into around fifty short chapters grouped into three parts:
- Choosing, planting and growing vines.
- Cellars, vats and barrels.
- The harvest, fermentation in the vat, how to make different types of red and white wine, and how to manage them in barrels.

An unusual work, here in its original booklet.
