Poulet-Malassis published this collection of republican poems under his cockerel label, replacing it with Red iron the title La Tackle fly decided by the poet.

As a member of a travelling theatre company for which he wrote verse dramas and worked as a prop boy and prompter, Glatigny met Poulet-Malassis in Alençon, who introduced him to Théodore de Banville. Impressed, Glatigny drew inspiration from Tightrope Odes to write his first collection of verse, Les Vignes Folles (1860).

Despite his success in Paris, Glatigny did not give up his life on the stage. However, travel and deprivation took their toll on him, and he died of a lung infection at the age of 33. Victor Hugo wrote in his notebook: "The news arrives that Albert Glatigny has died. A charming soul is gone."
Glatigny was posthumously awarded the Prix de l'Académie Française for his body of work. His poetry inspired Verlaine and Rimbaud in particular; Rimbaud borrowed several of his verses.
