FRANCISQUE SARCEY'S COPYwith a SIGNED AUTOGRAPH CONSIGNMENT to one of the rooms and a HAND-WRITTEN LETTER bound at the beginning of the volume:

"Dear Mr Sarcey,
I'd like to be able to thank you myself, but I don't have long to think about it. The bedroom won't let me go. I've been like this for twenty-seven months, but fortunately it's getting better. Melancholy has had no effect on me during these two years of excruciating suffering, and I am not going to open the door to it now. The press reception of my poor little play has revived me. I wouldn't even complain about what I suffered for the love of the Muse, if I had failed the other day. Just think of the good that such a good reward has done me. I am frankly delighted and shake your hands with joy and gratitude.

As early as 1861, Glatigny mentioned the critic Francisque Sarcey, whom he described facetiously in the poem "Le Revenant"as a reincarnation of Edmond About; the object of his jibes ("You sound like Sarcey by writing Pradole as Pradeau"Sarcey, however, remained a supporter and correspondent for Glatigny.

Towards the willows. Comedy

FIRST EDITION. This comedy was first performed in Vichy on 25 July 1864, then at the Théâtre Cluny. Soprano Delphine Ugalde attended the premiere, which flattered the playwright. Thus, when during a performance the play was curiously whistled for immorality, Glatigny took the failure in stride: "one sleeps peacefully after having seen a comedy of one's own fall, and one does not at all take the blackbirds in hatred."

Prologue for the reopening of the Folies-Marigny, with music composed by Delphine Ugalde, whose compliments on Towards the willows had so flattered Glatigny.

The Illustrious Brizacier. Drama in one act

FIRST EDITION. Based on a sketch published in the Boulevard in 1862, Brizacier was turned down at the Odéon, and only premiered after the playwright's death at the Théâtre Corneille on 6 October 1876. Glatigny also wrote a poem about Brizacier, an actor who had been torn away from the theatre and was wasting away from the stage, The Testament of the Illustrious Brizacier. "The ignored heroes, dear to my heart, have never known envy [...] JNever has a complaint fallen from their lips. And why should they complain? They are happy, their souls overflow with ineffable joys, starry skies unfold on their foreheads. You feel sorry for them, but can't you see that it's you they want to give alms to?"(p. 2, preface to Jules Claretie).
