Description

Autograph letter signed to a gentleman about an object from China sent by Deveria to Judith Gautier:

Sir,

I have just received a letter from a friend of mine, Mr Deveria, who tells me that you have kindly taken charge of something he is sending me from China. As I am currently away from Paris, and I don't want to inconvenience you, I ask my friend Mme Seignobos to send you this letter and to take care of sending me the item. Mr Deveria also tells me that he has recommended me to you to introduce me to the Marquise de Y. Yong. I am doubly sorry not to be in Paris as I would be deprived of so many favours. Your acquaintance and that of this lady, whom I would have been delighted to see if serious interests had not kept me here, I would have made the journey on purpose.
Please tell me how I can send Mr Deveria a letter and a photographic card. It seems to me that if I simply put them in the post, they would never arrive. Yours sincerely
Judith Gautier
