An article in the Revue du Midi in 1845 praised the poet's energy and grace; but the author regretted his typically Romantic melancholy, which he had borrowed from the English: "This has been the hallmark of our writers over the last fifteen years. Melancholy, doubt and despair are their usual gods. It's as if the Muses have turned to fury. Ah, if we had any power over them, we would beg them to give up these inspirations from afar and leave the terrible goddesses of the North."
In 1849, Dauvin and Fontaine published a second collection entitled The Rainbow.
Elegant contemporary binding.
2 copies in France (Tolbiac and Arsenal). None abroad.
Bound in red chagrin, spine decorated with gilt fillets, gilt title, bookmark. Some foxing, more prominent in the 7th, 9th and 11th quarters.
