Description

BEAUTIFUL AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED  addressed to Max-Pol Fouchet, director of the review Fountain.

"Paris, 13 April 1950,

Dear Max-Pol,
your letter does me a lot of good. I know, moreover, how deep our understanding is; it was sealed forever even before I met you.
Catholic critics of the enlightened kind, yes I know. I'll be damned if I'm going to discourage it. It's not that simple: for example, I have a great deal of respect for Michel Carrouges and I couldn't help feeling a little sorry for him last night when he came to meet us at the café and came across three of those young Sunday people who were 'mounted' to an extent you can't even imagine. Knowing you as I do, I think you would have felt the same way.
You know that I always believe you to be out and about. Every time your presence is brought to my attention in Paris, I wonder why we don't see each other. Do me the great pleasure of telephoning one day soon so that we can put an end to this. Why don't you come and share a very small meal one of these evenings? Yours sincerely
André Breton
