When it was published in 1965, less than 1000 copies were sold. But the publication of Trout Fishing in America in 1967 made Brautigan famous, prompting critics to re-evaluate his first publication: 4 million copies of A Confederate General from Big Sur have since been sold.
Price of $3.95 clearly marked on the dust jacket; no indication on the copyright page, like all the other copies of the first edition.
