La Fanfarlo is the third text of the Illustrated literary vigils (fifteenth delivery), after Miss de Kerouare by Jules Sandeau and The Age of Virtues of Léopold Bougarre.
This news, first published in January 1847 in the Newsletter of the Society of People of LettersThis book, on pages 18-24 of the present issue, is illustrated with two woodcut figures of Édouard Frère by François Rouget.
Charles Asselineau presents this news in the Volume IV of the Complete Works (M. Lévy frères, 1869), as "Charles Baudelaire's first work". This was, in fact, the author's third work after the salons of 1845 and 1846.
