Description
DEFINITIVE EDITION forming volumes V and VI of the Complete Works of Horace de Saint-Aubin.
The first edition, published in 1822 by Pollet, was seized and suppressed by administrative decision, but the intervention of Monsieur de Berny prevented the proceedings. This censorship allowed the present edition to become a commercial success, the only one of Balzac's early works.
A FINE COPY BOUND IN CONTEMPORARY HALF CALF.
(handwritten bookplate on title pages: Mr Paradeson Retired Colonel).
Bound in contemporary grey half calf with corners, smooth spine decorated with framing and small irons, cold roulette on the boards. Corners dulled, brown spots.
