SET OF FOUR FIRST EDITIONS plays published by Der Sturm. An expressionist magazine founded in Berlin in 1910 by Herwarth Walden and a gallery from 1912, Der Sturm was also an avant-garde publishing house (Verlag Der Sturm), publishing Kurt Schwitters and Kandinsky.

With its focus on expressionist theatre, Der Strum published works by Hermann Essig and August Stramm. In 1917, under the direction of Herwarth Walden and Lothar Schreyer, the magazine opened its own theatre in Berlin, the Sturmbühne.

Herwarth Walden's theatrical work is only rarely performed in Germany (with the exception of his Sündestaged by Schreyer with 3-metre-high masks); in France and Belgium, however, it had a certain impact: the Groupe Libre gave Glaube in a setting imagined by René Magritte, and the tragic vaudeville Letzte Liebe is staged at Le Donjon.
