This four-hand play with music by Émile Pessard was first staged at the Opéra-Comique on 18 January 1878. The authors dedicated it to the twelfth- and thirteenth-century poet Henri d'Andeli:
"To the old author of Aristotle's Lai, who first dared to show the grave Stagyrite bridled by Love. This irreverent piece is dedicated."

Ex-copy of actress Suzanne Ball who played the role of Briséis when the play was revived on 14 December 1899. Her handwritten bookplate and the new cast are added at the beginning of the play, and about fifteen notes in graphiteThe role of Suzanne Ball is mentioned in the margin of the text.

It could be the work of Suzanne Ball, since on the fourth plate there is a discreet little embossed leather trefoil in which is written Suz. Ball.
