Description

FIRST EDITION from the second collection by Antoni Deschamps, best known as the translator of part of theHell of Dante.

Alphonse Lemerre wrote about it in theAnthology of nineteenth-century French poets : "[Deschamps] had gone to live in Florence itself, the better to embody himself in the character of the dark poet evocative of theHell. It was a severe ordeal for the translator's brain, and it left him worried for the rest of his life".

AUTOGRAPH SIGNED LETTER TO AUGUSTA HOLMÈS :

"to Mrs Holmes
on behalf of the author".

Émile Deschamps, the author's brother, praised the talents of the young composer in an acrostic poem:

At the banquet of the Chosen Ones, who comes to take their place?
An artist, a Muse, an emulator of Apollo
Glorious and shining star of Parnassus
A proud beauty, as wise as Solon
Without arrogance, without envy, a heart of gold without straw
All gifts shared. Happy destiny!
Augusta, it's really you... We've guessed you.

Leading the way AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY AUGUSTA HOLMÈS TO THE SINGER HÉLÈNE BRUNET-LAFLEURwho took part in the second hearing of the Argonauts 28 February 1882.

"Dear Madam, I'm sorry I couldn't find you. We need to go over this role a little more, and you will be superb. I shall be at home today until 9 o'clock this evening, so if you could come and see me for a moment, I would be delighted. [...] otherwise I'll expect you tomorrow morning at my place until 1 a.m. Your grateful author. A. Holmes"

Finally, we linked a AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR to Valentin Darthenay, journalist at Constitutional and director of the magazine The reading room :
