Description
FIRST EDITION of the author's first novel.
ONE OF THE 108 FIRST EDITED COPIES in quarto tellière format on Lafuma Navarre pure laid paper (this is one of the 100 nominative copies reserved for the bibliophiles of the Nouvelle Revue française). There follow 792 copies on Lafuma-Navarre pur-fil vellum paper.
It was at Montherlant's suggestion that Supervielle tried his hand at writing novels: "I wrote this little novel for the child I once was, who asks me for stories. They are not always his age or mine, which gives us the opportunity to travel towards each other and sometimes to join in the shadow of human pleasure.."
A partly autobiographical tale imbued with marvellous elements, this hybrid work anticipates some of the early work of the Surrealist movement.
Cover (with the error "Jules Supervieille") and spine preserved.
