Superb autograph signed letter to the resistance fighter, politician and writer Pierre de Bénouville :

"To my great friend and leader, General Barrès, Pierre de Benouville in civilian life, memories of a fraternal era, to the novelist and poet who does not write verse but thinks like a man of action and a poet. this [anthology of poems from Buchenwald] with the thought and on behalf of comrades, the living and the dead, most affectionately
André Verdet
Dit Duroc".

A member of the French Resistance, Pierre de Bénouville (1912-2001) probably met André Verdet through the Fight. In April 1944, Pierre de Bénouville, alias General Barrès, was wanted by the Gestapo and smuggled across the Spanish border to Algiers, where he took the name Duroc, the same alias as André Verdet, who was in the Buchenwald camp at the time.
