Description

AUTOGRAPHIC LETTER SIGNED by Rachel to her younger sister Rébecca Félixsent from London and dated 1849.
Rebecca entered the Comédie Française at the age of 15, where she played the roles of tragedy princess and young premiere. Her untimely death deeply affected Rachel, who succumbed to the same illness four years later.

My dear Rebecca
You are wrong to complain about me, because my dear child, if I have not written to you more often, that has not stopped me from thinking about you every day since I left Paris.
What must be important for you to know is undoubtedly the state of my health, and I've come to give you some good news at the moment; that doesn't prevent me from asking the director to send me some provinces.
I would like to leave London only to take the road that leads to Marly and if Mr Mitchell agrees not to make me travel I could be free on the 15th I would gladly give up 24,000 francs to get the 15 days' rest that would give me, so I hope but I am not sure I will get in two or three days I will know my fate; in any case soon I will be able to kiss my little friend, sister and comrade.
adieu mademoiselle receive the assurance of my highest consideration until you receive your dozen pairs of stockings.

Rachel

Please give a big kiss to my little sister, to whom I'm not writing today because I'm feeling a bit tired and I'm playing tonight. Andromache.

Andromache was very popular with English audiences. In London, thunderous applause greeted Rachel when she first appeared as Hermione in 1841. It was a funny mistake: the audience had given an equally enthusiastic welcome to Mlle Larcher, who played Andromache, believing they were watching the famous actress!

London,1849. Sheets,220 x 177 mm,1 f. in-8 .
