It was written by Auguste Scheler, a Belgian historian and philologist, librarian to King Leopold, professor at the universities of Liège and Brussels, and a learned linguist specialising in the literary history of the Middle Ages and etymology.
The work was condemned to destruction by the Seine Criminal Court in May 1865.
A charming copy, finely bound by Edouard Pagnant (1852-1916) at the end of the 19th century.
