ONE OF ONLY A FEW COPIES ON STRONG VELLUM (Carteret).

Copy with 5 original watercolours (one signed) and 1 sketch by Henri de Sta in the margins of the text. The watercolours have retained their very fresh colours.

The copy is enriched with a AUTOGRAPH LETTER signed by Alexandre Chatrian :

"Paris 27th July 1879.
Sir,
You only returned the second part of the manuscript that I had deposited with the 19th Century. The first part remained in your large box. If you would be so kind as to give it to the bearer, I would be grateful (...)".

A very well preserved sheet copy in a protective slipcase.

Henri de Sta

Henri de Sta, of his real name Henri de Saint-Alary, is a French draughtsman and illustrator born in Versailles in 1846, who died in 1920. He made many cartoons for the press, notably for The Black Cat (from 1892), Mame, Le Paris Bouffon (1885), The Laughter (1897) and The Charivari (1900). He also illustrated works for young people: The Moral and Wonderful Tales, The Week of Suzette and Le Petit Journal Illustré de la Jeunesse.
