ONE OF 104 COPIES ON VELLUM PUR FIL after 13 copies on Hollande Pannekock laid paper.
This diary in exilealmost never saw the light of day. When Georges Bernanos finished it in January 1940, he entrusted the only copy to Henri Michaux, who had returned to France. La Nouvelle Revue Française published the first few pages in its May 1st issue. However, the copy taken to the Saar front by R.-P. Bruckberger was lent by a senior officer whose luggage disappeared during the retreat and was only found in 1948."(Editor's note). Bernanos made a few corrections and returned the pages to the publisher, but did not affix a title.
