Cousin Bette and Le Cousin Pons appear to have been extensively reworked, with chapter divisions different from those of the Constitutional feuille- tons.

"Several remarkable additions made in Volume X were not included in the edition of the Comédie Humaine"(Dirkx).

Balzac would later include Les Parens pauvres in Scenes from Parisian LifeVolume XVII of the 1st supplementary volume of the 1842-1848 edition of The human comedy.

Copy of Georges Ascoli (1882-1944), ex-libris, bound at the beginning of the 20th century and complete with all covers. A literary critic, Professor of Letters and holder of the chair of literary history of nineteenth-century France at the Sorbonne, he was wounded in the First World War, but wanted to enlist in the Second. He died in Auschwitz, a victim of Nazi barbarism.
