One of Marcel Aymé's most famous texts, first published in a newspaper from 12 April to 17 May 1939, Le Boeuf clandestin tells the story of a bourgeois Parisian family whose banker father, who claims to be a vegetarian, is caught by his daughter secretly eating a rare steak.
There have been two film adaptations (1969, 1993) and a recent television adaptation (2013) starring Christian Clavier and Marie-Anne Chazel.
