15-PAGE FOLIO AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT ENTITLED: "REFLECTIONS ON THE PRESENT TIME, Chantilly 14 June 1726"
This astonishing manuscript begins with these thoughts:
"What I am about to write is not from a man who has a choice of jobs and who reasons like a philosopher as to whether he will accept them or not.
I'm not wanted.
But as I am accustomed to speaking to myself on all important occasions, I know how to treat her as if she were my choice..."
The Duc d'Antin then examines the reasons for wanting a great job: "Interest, ambition for glory, love of country, or the account we must give for our talents..."then the big jobs that are within his reach:" A place on the Council [...] Lnance […] The Ministry of War […] Foreign Affairs [...] "
An unusual document.
Leaves folded in two, still black, margins dusty and with a few small tears without affecting the text.
