Julie Guériaux - Two unique books

To celebrate the first anniversary of the exhibition "Fields of Julie Guériaux, almost all of whose 25 works on paper and one-off books on display have joined private collections, we are delighted to invite you to an evening presentation of two one-off books.

Over the last fifteen years or so, Julie Guériaux has developed a unique hybrid technique aimed at simultaneously fixing the multiple impressions of a throw of confetti. Halfway between inking a matrix and using a stencil, she randomly distributes thousands of confetti onto the paper before soaking them in ink, compressing them and drying them. She repeats this process ad infinitum, exploring the absorption limits of the paper and creating subtle chromatic variations, sculpting the surface with colour.

Continuing her research, Julie Guériaux has recently introduced the use of adhesive strips: new rectilinear stencils that contrast with the random appearance of the confetti. Removing them not only reveals rays of light, but also removes thin layers of material, like an inverted engraving process, revealing the previous inking.

This technique revealed a Comet in the leporello we are presenting, as well as fine shading and textural variations in the folio work Still Here.
