Born in Paris in 1961, Zaven Paré is a pioneer in the use of robotics in the visual arts. He began creating his own electronic puppets in 1996, then in 1999 produced a digital version for a show he directed at the California Institute of the Art, and finally an analogue version for a show by Valère Novarina. Winner of a grant from the Japan Society for Promotion of Science, he worked on the Robot Actors Project in the laboratories of Professor Ishiguro Hiroshi at the University of Osaka. Well-known for his robotics work, Zaven Paré has never ceased his painting activity - in particular, he was a painter-cartonnier for the Mobilier national de la manufacture des Gobelins. Far from being solely research and illustration projects, his works on paper (paintings and drawings) are part of a global approach to inventing new forms and new media of expression.
His work can be found in collections in France, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy, and can be viewed on his website www.zavenpare.com.
