It is in the hollow of the paper, at the intersection of the colours, in the geometric binarity, that the living, moving, organic, free element is to be found, guiding Roland Toupet's pastel strokes. " This movement now exposes us to the hubris of speed, to the need to take the measure of our human condition, made up of interiority, or intentionality, and physical constraint. ".
Born in Saint-Cloud in 1977, Roland Toupet worked on his first series of drawings during a trip to Argentina, "Paysages libres et oniriques" (2007), exhibited at the Arte-BA contemporary art fair in Buenos-Aires. In 2017, two new series saw the light of day: 'Sous la surface', produced in graphite, and 'À la frontière des mondes', a set of pastel drawings celebrating cellular life. They are the subject of a solo exhibition at the Larock-Granoff gallery (8 to 30 March 2024).
Roland Toupet is now continuing his work in the form of a book: À la frontière des mondes: series of pastel drawings (2021-2024).
