The author of Three Musketeers recidivated somewhat with El Salvador : Against the backdrop of the conquest of the kingdom of Granada by Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492 and the election of the young King of Spain to the Germanic Roman Empire in 1519, we meet a few capes, a lot of swords, some bandits, a gypsy woman and Don Carlos, the future Charles V.
This historical novel will be adapted for the stage under the title The Gentleman of the Mountain and first performed at the Porte St Martin theatre on 12 June 1960.
