Succession de tableaux tr\u00e8s courts, la pi\u00e8ce est techniquement difficile \u00e0 mettre en sc\u00e8ne. Mais l\u2019exigence de Roussel est telle qu\u2019il a promis aux machinistes, lors de la g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, une r\u00e9compense suppl\u00e9mentaire pour chaque seconde qu\u2019ils gagneraient par rapport aux d\u00e9lais fix\u00e9s pour le changement de d\u00e9cors. Malgr\u00e9 cette exigence, la pi\u00e8ce est tr\u00e8s mal accueillie par l\u2019ensemble de la critique : \u00a0\"<em>The short adventures are cut in the manner of epinal pictures. The curtain is lowered before the scenes are completed, and raised again only after the orchestra has played a series of false notes mixed with various noises\".<\/em>\u00a0(Jean Prudhomme,<em> Le Matin<\/em>5 February 1926).
