DUMMY COLLECTION, CUT OUT FROM THE PRESS, OF FEUILLETONS PUBLISHED BETWEEN 1839 AND 1840\u00a0<\/strong>in Le Si\u00e8cle<\/em> and La Presse<\/em>, including the first publication of Alexandre Dumas's \"Impressions de Voyage\" in Belgium<\/strong>. It comprises three episodes of 3 pp. each, published between 13 August and 12 September 1840 in the feuilleton of the Century<\/em>.
\nIt was in 1838, on his way to the Rhineland, that Dumas stopped off in Belgium. On the recommendation of Ferdinand d'Orl\u00e9ans, he met Belgian King Leopold I, who invited him to attend the jubilee celebrations in the city of Malines. Dumas wrote about it: I think that the whole of Belgium is personified by the festival that Mechelen is giving today. A mystery from the Middle Ages that people come to see by rail!\u00a0<\/em>(Zimmermann, Alexandre Dumas the Great<\/em>, p. 366-68).
\nHamel M\u00e9th\u00e9, author of Dumas dictionary<\/em>considers these Travel impressions<\/em> as a job\".of capital importance in Dumas' work, not to say the central pivot of his oeuvre<\/em>\"The writer was keen to study the field, and said: \"There's one thing I don't know how to do: write a book or a drama about places I haven't seen.<\/em>\" (Dumas dictionary<\/em>, p. 441)<\/p>\n

We also note the first publication of \"L\u00e9o Burckart, drama in 5 acts\", a collaboration between G\u00e9rard de Nerval and Dumas.<\/strong>reworked by De Nerval and published under the name \"M. G\u00e9rard\" in La Presse<\/em> in 9 episodes between 24 September and 4 October 1839. Premiered in April 1839, this political drama was inspired by an excursion to Germany (Le Qu\u00e9rard<\/em>, p. 69)<\/p>\n
