Description

FIRST EDITION. UNIQUE EDITION OF 200 COPIES.

Francis Poulenc's copy with an autograph signed copy of the letter on the proof of issue of each volume :

"To Francis, thanks to whom I am poet Louise."

"To my Francis whom I love and admire with all my heart. His friend Louise."

60 silver prints by Victor Grandpierre mounted on bristol board, a kind of surrealist arrangement of everyday objects, each illustrating a poem by Louise de Vilmorin printed in facsimile.

The meeting between Francis Poulenc and Louise de Vilmorin in the mid-1930s in the salon of the Countess de Polignac gave rise to a strong friendship tinged with mutual admiration. Poulenc later set to music several poems by the woman he considered the equal of Paul Éluard and Max Jacob: Engagement for laughs (1939) , Metamorphosiss (1943), Three poems by Louise de Vilmorin (1938).

"Few beings move me as much as Louise de Vilmorin: because she is beautiful, because she limps, because she writes French with an innate purity, because her name evokes flowers and vegetables, because she loves her brothers with love and fraternally her lovers." (Newspaper, Francis Poulenc)
