"On Wednesday,
Sir,
I am most grateful for the precious gift you have honoured me with. The perfect resemblance and the finesse of expression have made me the perfect solitary walker that I have not had the pleasure of seeing for many years: this is how he used to go in the evening in Boulogne, and that you must have often surprised him in the alleys of Fontainebleau.
Please accept, Sir, my congratulations and the expression of my sincere gratitude.
Sainte-Beuve".
