According to the final bibliographical note: "The book was published in 1914, shortly before the war, under the title Sur les quais de la Vilette (Figuière ed.). Several chapters had been published in magazines and newspapers in 1913 and 1914 (Mercure de France, L'Humanité, Le Matin).
The title it bears today is the one the author originally gave it, which he changed at the last minute" .
