"Ancient samples from various sources gathered since 1862 to give ideas and to find some new genres."

A chemist from Normandy who specialised in fabric dyeing, Fritz Rhem was a member of the Société Industriel de Rouen between 1870 and 1890. He is the author of numerous articles, including Notes on the dyeing of fabrics primed with artificial alizarin. All the samples collected were dyed, usually in a complex way for the period; they all featured several colours and shapes: dots, circles, grids, stripes, leaves or flowers.

An unusual collection.
