Description

45 poems by Prévert and 68 photographs by Izis, beautifully reproduced in heliogravure.

The copy belongs to Jean Mattei, a doctor living in Vence who met Jacques Prévert in 1947 and became a close friend of the poet.

The frontispiece features an original Jacques Prévert collage on an original photograph by Izis-Bidermanas. (200 x 255 mm), reproduced in the collection alongside the poem Confidential cable.
Prévert added a character with plaited hair, a turban and a mask with two-tone fringes; he also added red dots (in felt-tip pen) and white dots (in gouache).

SIGNED AUTOGRAPH LETTER on the photograph :

"to Jean Mattei
Jacques Rêve Vert his friend"

located and dated on the title page:

"February 1953 sunshine"

Prévert often added drawings and collaged characters to the books he gave as gifts, but works containing a finished collage like this one are much rarer.
