This First Dialogue of the Harmonious Cityinspired by socialist theories, was Péguy's second book. The book was written with Marcel Baudouin, one of his best friends, whom he had met at the Collège Sainte-Barbe and who died prematurely at the age of twenty-one. Péguy married Charlotte Baudoin, Marcel's sister, in October 1897. It was in her honour that he entitled his book Marcel and adopted this pseudonym.
