In the summer of 1892, Le Journal published a serial under the title of Narkiss, Jean Lorrain's transposition of the myth of Narcissus in Egypt. The three parts of the story were brought together and published in 1902 in the collection Princesses of ivory and airresse.
In 1908, the friends of Jean Lorrain published a first illustrated edition limited to 300 copies.
