FINE SET OF DOCUMENTS RELATING TO THE RELEASE OF THE JACK LONDON STAMP from the archives of its French translator, Louis Postif.

On 11 January 1986, the Jack London Foundation organised a birthday banquet in the Sonoma Valley to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the birth of the author of White Fang. The event was coordinated with the release of the 25-cent Jack London stamp by the United States Postal Service, and a dedicated ceremony was held at 11am after which participants could have their stamps and envelopes stamped with the words First Day Issue in the Jack London Bookstore - in exchange, of course, for 2 $ per stamp.

The documents on display were sent, donated or purchased by Louis Postif, who attended the event.

- Autograph letter signed from Russ Kingman - Executive Director of the Foundation - to Mr and Mrs Postif, dated 1 January 1986, announcing that the banquet was fully booked but "we will squeeze you in"Together with some information about the release of the stamp. With a copy of a typed letter dated 10 November 1985 announcing the details of the banquet and the release of the stamp - envelope retained.

- Nine different envelopes bearing the effigy of Jack London, seven with the 25-cent stamp and the First Day Issue stamp, two with the 25-cent stamp and the First Day Issue stamp. signed by Bess London.

- The first issue of Call of the Wild (Jan 1986), a Kork radio newspaper featuring London on its front page and announcing the release of the stamp.
