Description

FIRST EDITION LIMITED TO 75 COPIES.

This short text, first published in Journal de L'Yonne lon 12 August and then in the newspaper Monté-Christo of 20 August 1857, refers to the festivities in Auxerre and their parade of illuminated floats, but it is also an opportunity for Dumas to clear up a few rumours, in particular that of his affair with the Duke of Orléans.

Autograph signed letter from Ch. Lepère, Sommeville's real name who wrote the preface and two short explanatory texts What's in a migraine bottle and Origins of illuminated retreats. He was a journalist and songwriter, lawyer, mayor of Auxerre from 1870 to 1871, member of parliament for the Yonne, minister of agriculture and trade in 1879 and minister of the interior in 1879:

"to my colleague Aimé Cherest. Ch. Lepère".

A lawyer and member of the Société des sciences historiques et naturelles de l'Yonne, Aimé Cherest was the author of historical studies of Auxerre. This copy bears his bookplate engraved by Servan on the inside back cover.

The manuscript of this text was acquired by the Conseil Général de l'Yonne in 1999 and now forms part of the holdings of the Archives Départementales de l'Yonne.

Very unusual.
