"to Gabriel Eon,
in friendship,
these futile pages.
Marcel Droüet".

Born in Sedan, Marcel Drouet contributed to several magazines: Le Divan, Waspsand the Critical Review of Ideas and Books. In 1911, he became General Secretary of the Eastern Marches. This journal was founded in 1909 by a handful of writers mobilised against the threat of the pangermanist. Close to Georges Ducrocq, Maurice Barrès and Paul Drouot, he published two works in 1912: Some Leaves from the Juvenile Book and The Turning Shadow. He died on the field of honour on 4 January 1915 at Consenvoye (Meuse).

Gabriel Eon (1883-1915) contributed to various Poitevin magazines before joining the 137th Infantry Regiment at his own request. On 10 June 1915, he was hit by shrapnel, and his last words were: "For France!". He was the brother of the poet André-Marie Eon, who died in combat, and the writer Francis Eon, the only surviving sibling.
