Description

Letter of recommendation for an actora few days before the creation of Ruy Blason 8 November 1838, at the Théâtre de la Renaissance, directed by Anténor Joly.

"Sir,
forgive me for daring to recall the humblest of the names of those who adore you, and to guide towards you an artist whose true talent you have just appreciated in Italy, gifted with an immense memory and an intelligence full of daring, he can serve you, Sir, in the job that Mr Anténor Joly lacks.  Mademoiselle Mars [creator of the role of Doña Sol in Hernani a few years earlier]. would like the support of my pressing recommendation, to make it seem at least less bold. Sir, it is with all truth that we dare to point out to you, Mr Ste Marie, the role of your great work, which is currently of interest to all those whom your glory has made your humble friends.
Valmore, 3 9bre 1838."
