Description

Autograph letter signed addressed Alain Trutat (1922 - 2006) co-founder of France-culture about an adaptation of Hemingway's Farewell to Arms:

Dear Sir,
I thank you for your letter of the 28th which only reaches me these days in Greece where I live most of the time. I take advantage of a friend who is returning to Paris and her ORTF broadcasts to answer you right away.
Signiot had indeed told me about this adaptation of Hemingway's "L'Adieu aux armes" which might have interested me if it hadn't been such problems with Gallimard's rights and the translator's right of regency. Moreover, the deadlines we give me are really too short. This kind of work requires time and reflection. In a fortnight, it is out of the question. Finally, I'm in the middle of a book and I would have a hard time worrying about anything else in the next two months.
What bothers me is that you may have been expecting me to work with you this fourth quarter. I hate to be out of the loop, although I have a feeling you'll easily find another adapter. Anyway, thank you very much for thinking of me, who still loves radio and will always be happy to do it on other occasions. Believe, dear Sir, in my best feelings.
Michel Déon.
