after 25 copies on Madagascar.
Winner of the Prix du Roman Populiste in 1931, L'Hôtel du Nord was adapted for the screen by Marcel Carné in 1938 under the eponymous title.

The book, which was rejected by Gallimard, was a huge success and enabled Robert Denoël to launch his own publishing house.
