Description

Autograph letter signed Coletteaddressed to the Paris Opera actor and mime Georges Wague - on the newspaper's letterhead Le Matin [July 1921]:

" Dear Old Man, This morning, Sunday, I still hadn't received my entrance card, even though La Matin had telephoned Beaux-Arts yesterday until the evening. This morning at 20 minutes to ten to be exact, I went to the Conservatoire and they wouldn't let me in because I didn't have a card. I name myself, I name Le Matin, uselessly, because the troglodytes at the entrance know nothing about it. I go to see the concierge... not for long, because that tragedienne has put me in the hole! ... I arrive here at Le Matin, ten o'clock, and I write a letter to the editor-in-chief. there might be a bit of trouble. They're worse than ever. He had Gaudéra, Léo Claretie, and Chaissaigne de Néronde there listening to it... with all their eyes, I assure you. This story is charming, except for you, and I regret that. Your old friend. Colette. "

Colette performed pantomime with Georges Wague on several occasions, notably during the tour from 1906 to 1912, which caused a scandal with the performances of The Flesh in which Colette was largely undressed.
