Description

Three greetings cards published by Galerie Chave in Vence for 1965, 1966 and 1967.

Card for 1965 - 110 x 120 mm: A sheet of red paper folded in half, printed in black on the first cover: "For the coming year, the Clan des Chave has this box for you - Vence 1965".. Slipped inside is a 5-zone shooting target pierced with five holes; a legend indicates that the holes correspond to a wish: "1. All kinds of trouble / 2. Grey days / 3. So that everything works out / 4. Prosperity, Health / 5. Perfect happiness".

Card for 1966  - 82 x 182 mm: A sheet of red paper folded in two, printed in red and gold, reproducing on the first cover the cover of the New illustrated Larousse. Slipped inside, a leaflet printed in black with a definition of Happiness; opposite, this text: "Alphonse Chave, Fanette and Jacques Chave, and Pierre Chave have worked together to have this definition of Happiness, taken from the 7-volume Larousse, specially printed for you as your best wishes for 1966.".

Map for 1967  - 200 x 100 mm: A sheet of white paper folded in half, printed in black on the front cover: "Ministère de la prospérité - Services de l'informatic - The Chave have put the Happiness Equation for 1975 on a computer for you. The best of the 5th plan". Inside, a perforated paper programming card for an IBM computer is glued in place; the holes show 1967 in two colours.

Opened in September 1947 in Vence under the name "Les Mages", the Galerie Chave took its definitive name in 1960. Alphonse Chave exhibited works by Max Ernst, Henri Michaux, Zao Wou-ki, Dado, Dubuffet and Slavko Kopač, among others. Today, it is one of the most important galleries in the south of France.

According to Madeleine Chave, currently head of the gallery, these cards were printed in small numbers, for artists, friends and neighbours of the gallery.

We enclose the invitation card printed in lithography to the Gerard Eppele exhibition, from 27 June to 11 July 1964.
