Description

ORIGINAL EDITION illustrated with 22 compositions by Fernand Léger stencilled in Richard's studio.

ONE OF 1200 EXEMPLAIRES numbered on Registre vélon Lafuma paper, after 40 copies on Rives à la forme.

This text, originally intended for the The Cinema Book (1918), was finally illustrated by Fernand Léger, who had already collaborated with the author on I killed the previous year. Léger also created the robust Morland typeface in 24 point font, whose dark, mechanical appearance enhances the contrast of the brightly coloured stencils. The work is now considered a masterpiece of illustration.

"It was the most beautiful and accessible French artist's book [...] A message of modernity is evident on every page of this bibliophilic masterpiece". (Logan, 78) (Fouché, p. 38, 17; Castleman, 170).

Paris,Published by La Sirène,1919. Softcover257 x 317 mm,unpaginated, 30 leaves.

Clear traces of wetness on the cover, a white strip of 6 cm cut at the top of the title page.
